The CIAC Coaches and Captains zoom meeting in Novemberwas well attended. We had another great turnout.
-
We will continue to update e-mail addresses for all head coaches and assistant coaches. We will continue to communicate through e-mail. If you are not getting the e-mails please contact Sal Follo and you will be added to the list.
-
The Hobey Baker High School Character Award letter and directions on how to vote online will be sent out by Jan. 12th via e-mail. We want to make sure that everyone responds with their selections. The deadline is Feb. 11th. It is very important that you submit one of your players.
-
Another reminder, you must be registered with our association to participate in everything we do for hockey. The CHSCA Membership Form is on the website under the "Membership" tab.

The CHSCA All-State Hockey Ballots will be e-mailed to all coaches the week of Feb. 13th and must be returned to by Mar. 5th. All coaches will be notified by Mar. 14th if one or more of your players are chosen. We ask when you do get the all, for you to contact your players & their parents with the information regarding the All-State dinner. The ballots will include the All-State team selection in Div. I, II & III along with MVP sponsored by CHSCA. Senior All-Star & Junior Select nominees (unlimited number of players that are in good standing with NO majors for fighting, attempt to injure or abuse of officials) on the ballot as well as Asst. Coach of the Year. We will also have a Player of the Year Award, Team of the Year & Coach of the Year sponsored by the CHSCA. All awards will be presented at the All-State Banquet on Sunday, April 16th @ Aqua Turf in Southington. Players must be there at Noon for the team picture and must wear a shirt & tie.

Our Junior Select & Senior All-State Games will be held on Sunday, March 26th at the Shelton Twin Rinks. The Junior Select Game will be at 2:30 pm & Senior All-Star game following at 4:30 pm. There will be a mandatory try out on Thursday, March 23rd for both teams @ the Shelton Twin Rinks. Tryouts for Juniors is at 7:30 pm & Seniors will try out at 8:30 pm. The fee for try outs is $20. If the player is selected, there will be an additional $50 fee. There will be an MVP selected from every team.

We will again be playing an All-Star game vs. Massachusetts on Sunday, April 2nd at Loring Arena in Framingham, MA. The players will be selected from the JR Select & SR All-Star games. The winning coaching staffs will also coach the 2 teams.

CHSCA Ice Hockey News & Events:

Virtual Coaches & Captains Meeting: The CIAC Coaches & Captains zoom meeting in November was well attended. We had another great turnout.
-
Email Addresses: The email addresses for all head & assistant coaches will continue to be updated. Communication will continue to be done via email. If you are not receiving emails, please contact Sal Follo (contact info below) and you will be added to the list.

Hobey Baker Character Award: The Hobey Baker High School Character Award letter and instructions for voting online will be sent out by January 12th through email. Please make sure everyone responds. The deadline is February 11th. All the recipients will be in the CIAC Hockey Program for the semifinals & finals. It is very important that you submit one of your players.

REMINDER: You must be registered with our association to participate in everything we do for hockey. If you are not registered, you can find our membership information HERE.

All-State Ballots: The CHSCA All-State Hockey Ballots will be emailed to all coaches the week of February 14th & must be returned by March 4th. All coaches will be notified by March 11th if one of more of your players are chosen. We ask that all coaches contact their players & their parents with the information regarding the All-State dinner. Parents can pay online for the dinner HERE. The ballot will include All-State Team selections in Div. 1, 2 & 3 along with MVP sponsored by by CHSCA in the division your team plays in. You can select a player no not one of your players. Senior All-State & Junior select nominees (unlimited number of players that are in good standing w/ NO major for fighting, attempt to injure, or abuse of officials) on the ballot as well as Assistant Coach of the Year. There will also be a Player of the Year Award and Team of the Year sponsored by the CHSCA. All awards will be presented at the All-State Banquet to be held on Sunday, April 10th 6:30 PM at Aqua Turf in Southington. Players must be there by 6 PM for the team picture and must wear a shirt and tie.

All-Star Games: The Junior Select & Senior All-State Games will be held on Sunday, March 27th at the Northford Ice Pavilion. The Junior Select Hame will be at 1:00 PM & the Senior All-Star Game will begin at 3:00 PM. There will be a mandatory tryout on Thursday, March 24th for both teams at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Tryouts for the Junior Select team are at 6:00 PM & the Senior All-State tryouts will begin at 7:30 PM. The cost to players is $75 made out to CHSCA. Cost covers tryouts and all games. There will be a MVP chosen from every team. We will again be playing an All-Star team from MA on Sunday, April 3rd. The players will be selected from both All-Star games on March, 27th. The winning coaching staff will coach the 2 teams.

CHSCA Ice Hockey Events:

Virtual Coaches & Captains Meeting: The CIAC Hockey Committee along with Referee’s Association sponsored a virtual Coaches and Captains meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. The Referee’s went over the new rule changes, I reviewed some of the thing’s CHSCA will be doing and Ken Henrici-chairman and Joe Morrell (new tournament director) went over the tournament for this coming year. We thank everyone who was able to attend along with your captains for this virtual meeting.

All-Star Games: The CHSCA games and tryouts will be held at the Northford Ice Pavilion this year. The tryouts are on March 24th with the Junior tryouts at 6pm and the Senior tryouts will be at 7:25pm. The Connecticut games will be on March 27th with the Juniors playing at 1pm and the Senior game will be at 3pm. And from these games we will pick the best 20 players to play against Massachusetts teams on April 3rd with the Junior Select game at 1pm and the Senior game at 3pm. We will again pick an MVP for all games. There will be one fee for everything which will be $75. More information to follow. I am still looking for coaches for these games.

Coaching Changes: We have 3 coaching changes this season, Mark Mongillo will be the new head coach at Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe Coop, Colin O’Connor will be the new head coach at Hall and Bob Allan is the new head coach of the Southington Coop. I want to wish them good luck. Carl Larouche and Brian Cannon have retired. I want to say that Carl and Brian did an amazing job and are terrific coaches who will be missed. Good luck to both on their retirements.

CHSCA Hockey All State Dinner: The CHSCA Hockey All State Dinner will be on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the Aqua Turf at 1:00pm. The awards given out will be Asst. Coach of the Year, MVP in all 3 divisions, Player of the Year, CHSCA Team of the Year and Inspiration Award. All ticket money will be paid online through the CHSCA web page. For you to vote and participate in the many things that our association does in hockey, you need to be a member of the association. Divisional Placement: Here is a list of programs that moved for divisional placement. Div. 3-Rocky Hill Coop, EO Smith, Hall, Southington Coop and Conard. Moving to Div. 2 is Sheehan and Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde has opt out for this coming season. Also, Wilton will not field a team this year due to not enough numbers. They will be back next season. Hall will be a stand-alone program this year with Southington will coop with Coginchaug and Westbrook with Southington as the host school. There is a total of 55 teams.

CIAC Ice Hockey Committee: The CIAC Ice Hockey Committee from our organization will remain the same for this year. They are Sal Follo, Ex Officio member, Greg Maxey, Mac Budd, and Dean Diamond. We will continue to represent our ice hockey coaches. I will continue to let everyone know what is going on and ask for your input before the 4 members vote on any matter that comes before us. That is our responsibility of being members to represent you and our organization (CHSCA). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. If I don’t have an answer for you, I will make sure to contact the CIAC and get the answer and pass it on to you.
