The 2022 CIAC Girls Tennis Tournament successfully completed the team and invitational tournaments.  The finals of the Boys and Girls team tournaments took place at Wesleyan, which were then followed by the Invitational tournament at Wesleyan.  The team tournament was a continuation of the previous tournament format with the exception being that the Finals were held at Wesleyan with the Boys.

The Invitational tournament, which was first introduced last year due to Covid restrictions, was doubled in size.  We were able to invite 48 singles players and 24 doubles teams.  This format worked well and kept the tournament well organized and on schedule.  Players were enthusiastic about the opportunity to play and the level of play was outstanding.

Wesleyan has 16 courts and has been very accommodating to the State Tournaments.  The only glitch this year was a lack clean restrooms and trash cans.

Scheduling for next year should try to avoid the Saturday after Memorial Day Weekend due to the SAT’s and prom conflicts.  This was used as the rain date for the team finals and required significant juggling of matches and even resulted in on final being played on Sunday.

The successful completion of the tournaments would not be possible without the help from the Girls Tennis Committee members, tournament directors, Gregg Simon (CIAC liaison) and the Boys TD, Jim Solomon.  Thanks also to the City of Middletown and Wesleyan University for hosting the tournaments.
